Fully charged 6V is 6.3-6.4V, so I'm a little low, but had been cranking a bit.
The book says set static timing on the U/C mark on the flywheel when installing the distributor (page 12-29) with #1 at TDC compression, and use the ball with a timing light when running (page 6-19.)
Why it wasn't in the same place in the manual? Would have been easier to find.
I'll be double checking things when I retry. Will also measure cranking voltage at the coil to rule out a dragging starter.
