The Bendix HydroVac has a small pipe plug (1/8" npt) at the bottom front of the vacuum canister, fill to the level of the plug with the unit in a level horizontal position. The oil is only to keep the leather vacuum piston seal pliable, as the piston moves within the cylinder, the oil wicks its way around the leather. I used motorcycle shock oil.
