The front bearing retaining nut is also intended to be an oil slinger for oil to be returned
back into the case. In addition the inside of the front bearing retainer (the part the
throughout bearing rides on) is machined to correspond with the slinger.
If there is excessive wear on either or both of these parts, oil can leak out.
The slinger/nut is left hand thread and some times are removed or installed with
channel lock pliers which damages the part.
