If your truck sits around for long periods of time (or even if it doesn't) I'd suggest keeping it connected to a Battery Tender.
I keep all of the vehicles in my care connected to them at all times, including a lawn tractor. I replaced the Galaxie 500 battery last year after 10 years of service. The lawn tractor battery is going on 5 years now.
They keep your battery fully charged at all times which adds years of life to them.
