Since it's possible to swap a HEI distributor for a 194-292 cubic inch inline six engine into a 216-261 block, would it be safe to assume the diameter, tooth pitch, gear centerlines, and similar dimensions are the same? I'm still tinkering with the idea of making a 3 piece roller cam, with a flat tappet distributor gear sandwiched between two billets of round steel stock. There are probably enough "worn out" or scrapped stovebolt cams out there to provide plenty of donor gears, but if the Generation 3 sixes run the same gear dimensions, that would increase the donor gear supply exponentially, with newer material. I think it's also safe to assume the Mercruiser 4 cylinder engines might also be a source, since their timing gears can be used on a stovebolt engine.
