Unlike a true star like Blake Horvath who's star college football experience will be but a footnote in an otherwise illustrious Naval career serving his country. Horvath is at USNA studying Naval Weapons systems, advanced math, chemistry, electrical engineering and other critical subjects and preparing himself to be a leader capable of taking others into Harm's Way effectively. Or my classmate, David Robinson, who led a dysfunctional NBA team to a championship, got into the Hall of Fame and has since founded a successful private Christian school in South Texas among other community building projects. What are Pavia and Mendoza studying -- leisure management? Will they ever serve anyone but themselves? Doubtful. If the Heisman is to mean anything (to me, it doesn't), it should look at the whole person, not just how well they played a game.
