Define "hot"- - - - -is the coolant boiling? A 7 pound pressure cap which was standard on your truck will keep the coolant liquid up to 232 degrees before it starts to boil over. Unless it's boiling at idle, it's not "hot". Does the coolant temp drop at road speed and/or if the RPM is raised a little? You might need a fan shroud, or a good pressure wash of the radiator core, from the engine side of the radiator.
