On a 100 degree day, and a worn engine sure. All the big old piston airliners used SAE 60 equivalent oil. I dumped gallons and gallons of it in DC-3's as a youngin they were Pratt & Whitney R-1830's. Oh yeah it stayed in there for the winter time as well.
Shelf life of oil ? Hmmm thousands of years in the ground? Additives ? maybe warm it and shake it up?
