Had a buddy call me to see if I wanted a lathe. I said yes. I called the guy who had it and he said that he wanted $150 for it.
I told him I'd be there later in the afternoon.
I got there and it looked to be all there, and it came with a ton of tooling. I'm talking about a thousand dollars worth of tooling.
I didn't even ask him to plug it in.
It's a South Bend 9" with a 4 foot bed rail.
It looked old to me, but I know next to nothing about lathes.
When I got to home I read the Data plate and saw a date of 8-9-11.
1911 not 2011. Old indeed.
I plugged it in and everything works.
It is very ornate looking. I wouldn't mind having it in the den so that I can glance at it from time to time and just smile.
I plan on taking it apart and thoroughly clean and lube everything. 114 years is a lot of time for grime in the works to cause some problems.
