I have a 1953 Chevy 1/2 ton model 3100 that I want to convert the shifter from the steering column to the floor. It has a Chevrolet 3 speed manual transmission that is original. Also has the original torque tube. I see that there are several shifter conversion kits available out there, but they all seem to mount on the rear of the transmission. My concern is that this shifter arm would then run into the bench seat in the cab. Does anyone know if this is actually going to be a problem, and if so, what are the solutions to it? Also, are there any shifter kits that mount directly on top of the trans that would move the shifter arm further forward and avoid this problem?
Thank you.
