How do you cut a hole in rubber belting? I need to enlarge the holes in these trans mount rubbers to accept the ½" bushing. I tried a ½" drill bit but that will not cut a full size hole. It just pushes through and leaves about a 3/8" hole. I know what you’re thinking...use a 3/4 and it’ll end up at ½. Don’t have 3/4 and it leaves a very ragged hole. Seems like some kind of punch would be needed. Would a local belting supply house have something to punch it with?
As we discussed previously the rubber pieces for the mount from Chevy Duty are too thick and push the mount too high for the back of the transmission. I have some thinner rubber (thanks James Smith) for above and below the plate but wanted to fill the space with urethane. These “shims” were easy to fabricate and easy to drill. Just a little time with a hacksaw and grinder did the trick. This will keep the mount from moving too far side to side.
