It's a 66, nostalgia is vague after 59. I would mount the regulator way lower, under the A/C hoses. Keep it's hoses down under all those other hoses as best you can and all will "disappear". Good job figuring out the right plan, getting the fittings and installing "carb" and reg without much help from vendors.
