GL - there was no problem with accumulating any quantity of old vehicles in your property until first lady, Ladybird Johnson - wife of Lyndon Baines Johnson a/k/a LBJ, decided that junkyards were the scourge of the American landscape and she put them at the top of the hit list in her "Keep America Beautiful" campaign. From that point in time, we have fought to find junkyards. Her campaign was catalyzed in the 70s and 80s by tree huggers pushing enviro-nazis to pass clunker laws which made the ball roll faster.
