Agree about the old paint codes. I tried that at my paint supplier and got the deer in the headlights look. They were able to re-tint the paint I got from Jim Carter that was supposedly correct for the interior of my truck. There was a spot on the speaker grille that was much lighter than what was supplied. They got it to a close enough match.
A number of years back, there was a number at PPG that you could call and get a substitution paint code, but no longer. But many of the original exterior colors are available from Jim Carter.
Also that Paintref.com site many times has codes from other paint manufacturers matched up to the old colors.
