The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Driveline 1954 1/2-ton rear axle bearing

I took the passenger side bearing out today and the washer definitely has a cone shape to it so I am going to leave it be .I also notice that the first 5 inches from the backing plate is a bigger diameter than the rest of the rear section .In that section was some valuable gear oil ,it was all sparkling.Good thing I decided to change the bearings would have been hard to clean out that pay later dirt.Also on reassembling I think I will put some gear oil in the area behind the bearings as it will stay there being a larger diameter.
