I managed to get sealant (the CRL stuff) all around my windshield by supporting the tip on the caulk cartridge with my finger. I was wondering if the tip was going to come out of the tube for a while. But as noted above in this thread, it was messy.

If i were going to do more than one windshield, then that caulk gun and special tips that Dan found might be worthwhile.
