Disconnect the carb end of the cable and pull the knob out far enough to expose a bit of the wire. Then put a couple of slight bends in the wire, push the knob back in and check to see how much resistance there is. If it still won't stay when hooked up, repeat with a little more bend. Go slowly, to keep it from getting too stiff.
