I finished installing a 3 speed Browny yesterday in my '48 Chevy 2 Ton. It's an under, direct, overdrive transmission. I took it out for a test drive and it really cruises along pretty nice. I can keep up with the semi trucks now and actually passed one just to see if she could do it.
And I just love the way it whines in overdrive.
The install wasn't too bad. Seems like though if you change one thing it leads to changing another. I had to move the hydraulic pump out of the way, run new hydraulic lines, linkage, and so on. But overall things went pretty smooth. And so far I really like the overdrive... I can lope along at 60 pretty easy instead of wound tight at 50 in direct. Plus I'll have underdrive for those really big loads.
