Perhaps a little knowledge of Korean War era metal shortage would enlighten you. Per the orginal owners son whom I purchased it from 27 years ago, Truck was delivered to to dealership in Cullman, Al along with a sister truck. Neither truck had a rear bumper just a 2x4 piece of wood attached. Photo shows orginial dealer installed bumper.
If I understand correctly, the dealer dealt with war related shortages by improvising a rear bumper? I wonder if it was done in a local shop, perhaps even at the dealership; would you know about that?
It appears that the improvised bumper consumed more raw material than a stock one would have.
And yes , I am enlightened.
