JW, it's always smart to make sure the flywheel is true. However being a cheapskate with many years of farm type wrench turning behind me I did not have the flywheel surfaced. Don't really recall for sure but I likely put a 80 grit sanding disk on an angle grinder and scuffed it till bright and called it good. So far it has been.
The above said, surfacing doesn't cost much and a nice clutch is a treat most don't appreciate.
