You could use an external coil but I'm not certain which cap would substitute for this one. Since my truck is red I have a bit of a leg up with the red one. Of course there are only about 9013 different shades of red.
You can use an HEI setup with a generator. Some people say it won't work as well. But I have never heard a reason that made enough sense to repeat. Maybe because those folks weren't using a red one.
