There is a seal between the driveshaft tube and the shaft itself in the vicinity of the carrier bearing. It's show in Figure 79 in the 48-51 Truck Shop Manual (attached). You'll have to remove the front shaft to replace that, and you might as well replace the bearing inside as well, although it has been well lubricated. wink
