i am sticking my neck out too far, I stand by what I say above, but this part is conjecture and arm chair logic. As I said, I am going to see if it's true. I will test first and analyzed later.
A generator without a VR, can, for the lack of a better word, "run away". We know that a good 6V gen with a bad 6V VR can overcharge a 6V battery. So why not up to 14V with a 12V VR. An unregulated generator could put out 30V +..... possibly more. They must be regulated for a reason. Not going any further than that. As Mike Myers' mother would say "talk amongst yourselves".
First try below. Got the trailer a little. Just surface scorching though.....and the wood. thanks to the Forest Service Hot Shot crew. Those guys are great. Gotta tweak the VR more......when my hands heal.....
