The Stovebolt Site Forums The Parking Lot Big Bolts 1956 6100 Chevy with Dump Box

Hi to all,
I purchased a 1956 Chevy 6100 with a dump box a couple months ago and finally got it home a couple weeks ago, but I've been lurking and reading in the big bolts forum for awhile now.

I've found a tremendous amount of great information on my truck and where to find parts, kits, wheels and tires. The truck seems to be in pretty good shape for its age and location, it has a 261 6cyl 2 speed vacuum shift rear end and what looks to be a Galion dump box 9x20 tires ( junk) and 5 widow maker wheels #6 wheel isn't a wm.

Brakes are a no go but E brake is outstanding 👏 I did rebuild the carb at po's property to get it to run and drive on his land the dump box works fine. ( It was full of rotten lumber and had a birch tree growing in it. )

Once home, I changed oil/filter and thermostat ( now warms up to 180 ). It's running fine off a 1 gallon gas can due to skunky old gas in the tank.

The gauges all work as do the lights and wipers. I do plan to remove the box but leave the hydraulics in place so it's easier to get at all the stuff along the frame it also makes it easier to have it in my shop.

First thing to do is get the brakes working and flush out the cooling system and heater then move on from there.
