Actually, after reading the tech tip I now have the hood removed.
My hood sits high and narrow. The tip instructed that the key to adjusting that is the centerpiece that bridges the two transverse hood frame members. Removing the fasteners and adding spacers under the outboard ends of that centerpiece is supposed to “wing” the flanks outward and draw the center down. My tape measure says that the adjustment has been effective. The hood is still belly up. Tomorrow is proof day when I roll the hood upright and re-install.
Notes:
- All 6 machine screws sheared off. I had to drill them out and re-tap. (1/4 x 20 )
- (Sacrilege Warning!!!) Torque head screws might have been the latest and greatest in the 50’s , but I hate ‘em. I really do.
- Grabbing that heavy sheet metal from the small front end and leveraging it up off the truck single handed is not good for the lower back.
- Getting stabbed in the gut by the beak of a ‘55 Bel Aire jet bird hood ornament made the above task extra painful.
As I said , tomorrow will tell.
