I learned a trick from the guys over at OLDIHC.org. You take 1 part non-desulpherized molasses(animal feed supplement) to 10 parts water, add your rusty, peelingpaint metal hoozits to the mix, wait a couple of weeks and the hoozit comes out a shiny doohickey with no rust and no paint. It has to do with the sulpher and something about chelating processes but it's cheap, environmentally friendly, can be used over again and doesn't smell bad.
