My best friend and I have recently discussed building a run stand, and have talked about accommodating side mount and front mount Chevy sixes, as well as a front mount GMC six. I sketched out my ideas to show him, but we have nothing in the way of actual plans or measurements. He's got some engines in storage, and I think one day we'll get a couple of them out and put a tape measure to them and start making plans, unless some show up in this thread. My thoughts were to make side mounts that bolt onto the stand frame, and possibly make a front crossmember in such a way that you could unbolt it and flip it around between Chevy and GMC front mount positions, with the bell housing mounts being stationary at the back. It would be on casters, and the thought crossed my mind recently that the casters should be tall enough for the engine hoist to roll under it.
Just brainstorming at this point...
