The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Driveline Flywheel bolt “lock tabs”

I’m starting to reassemble my ‘46 truck, (resurfaced fly wheel, new clutch assembly and new u-joints). I can’t find new flywheel bolt locking tabs. I ordered new flywheel bolts when I ordered all my parts, thinking the tabs would come with the bolts. I was wrong. Can’t find them listed on any of the usual vendors sites. Any idea where to find new ones? I buggered a couple of the original ones up during removal.

Or, are they even needed if the bolts are properly torqued?

Most of our regular vendors offer new flywheel bolt kits that come with individual “star” style washers which offer the locking effect of the bendable tabs without the fuss and eventual breakage from repeated use of the original tab plates.

As others have mentioned in other conversations on the same topic, it’s highly recommended that you use blue loctite on the bolts as the inner sides of the crank mount bolt holes are exposed to internal engine oil. The loctite helps bolt retention, but also helps prevent oil working its way into the clutch assembly.
