Took my 54 3100 (6volt) out for some gas and lunch today... 20 miles one way. Been having hot start troubles, nothing serious, just has to crank over real slow a few revs before catching up. Today after getting gas, the temp gauge was at 210. Finally got it started and it was cooling down as I drove off the lot. Stopped 6 miles later at the truck stop on 95 for lunch. Got back in and stepped on the starter and... nothing. Tried again and... nothing. Tried a third time and it turned over r e a l slow, caught up and started. Came straight home to the shop. Never got it to turn again. Swapped it out with the old stock starter and did fine.
Took the switch off and the motor reved just fine with a 12 v jump. The switch contacts were out of line and would not connect. Rebuilt starter less than 4 months old. I'll sent it back and use the old one off of my 216.
