That coolant level sounds normal to me.

I installed a recovery tank on my '66 Toronado because I liked the idea of filling the radiator to the top and not having fluid spill onto the ground. It's also a quick visual check when the engine is hot to confirm that the cooling system is full.

There's one on the AD truck, too. Very convenient.
