My head hurts.
I have a 1949 Chevy 3600 with a 216 on a 6 volt system, known to some as "Wrecker" or "Texas Red".
The current problem is that after a couple of stomps the starter drains the battery without ever getting the drive spinning properly. Sounds like Grrrr, grr, gr, g ...
The dedicated 6 volt battery is kept charged on a tender.
I've removed all the electrical (mouse eaten) with the exception of the Go/NoGo switch to the coil and from the coil to the distributor.
Recently I pulled out the starter and replaced the brushes and switch and gave it a good cleaning.
Replaced the starter pedal return spring with a NOS one.
The only thing I can think of left to do is replace the battery cables with heavier 4/0 (0000). I have SAE 1 on there now. Could this be the solution to the problem?
