Using the onsite attachment manager is an easy way to upload pictures. Just make sure the picture is under the maxiup size of about 2mb. Most pictures taken with phones are over that size limit. They will need to be reduced in file size, not physical size, to work. I think that's where most of the problems come from.
There are a number of compress photo apps on the various app stores for apple and Android products.
As a side note, many times, if you email the picture to yourself, it will reduce the size automatically..... Then save the picture when you open your mail.
