I bought my 53 3100 in 1980 in SoCal in 1980 when I got out of the Navy. It was my work truck (carpenter) and only vehicle for 9 years. I put a modern rear end in it with 3:73's. Otherwise completely stock. Besides 2 to 3 hours a day loaded with tools and materal I drove it from SoCal to northern Indiana and back 5 1/2 times pulling 2 desert bikes. These are some of my best memories. My point is I agree get it on the raod and drive it. These trucks are not as bad as some people say to drive. You may just fall in love with it stock.
