If you have never driven an S-10, make it a point to do so. In my experience with them, they do not handle any better than a fully restored 3100 chassis, and they ride is not much better either. They are pretty much a light duty economy grade car chassis with a truck body on it.
I do not consider this type of swap an upgrade. There are better ways to get what you want by modernizing a stock chassis.
