Hi all;
just wanted to tell you about lhe latest on my '57 GMC. You probably know I sold the V-8 out of it and as part payment was given a '55 270. It's been a major hassle making it fit,but I finally have it functional and now it runs well enough I'm considering getting the plates and insurance transferred from my ol' 62 one ton to the GMC.
When I finally got it to run,it sounded pretty bad;smoked a LOT,rattled during deceleration whenever I revved it over 1500 rpm or so,had no power. but I changed the oil to Castrol Hi Mileage 20/50,got a temporary permit and drove it for a few days,and the engine noises have diminished a lot,it doesn't smoke nearly as much,and has plenty of power. Not sure if the oil change brought all these improvements about or if it was just a matter of driving it enough to free things up,but,even though I know it still has a burnt valve or two,it runs damned near GOOD!

I think next big change will probably be a new clutch. OH-and it started even at 3 below a couple of mornings ago!
About the main reason I'm driving the '62 is that it has the hoist and is better for pulling trailers and other vehicles,but I'm thinking as long as I have to get bad mileage,why not drive the ol' GMC and have some fun?

BTW-Found a '55 Chevy first ser. 3100 in fair condition here. It has a '55 265 V-8 swapped in

,but it looks like a very good conversion. How bad does the V-8 conversion hurt the value of this truck? From its VIN,it's about 1334,I think,in production. (Don't have my notes handy) I think it could be had pretty reasonable,if a guy wants it. If you're interested,let me know and I'll try to get a buncha pics of it.
