I had a 283 in my 1957 truck. I used the under-engine tubular mounting bracket. Everything fit fine, the stock steering box cleared easily, I didn't change my radiator location , but I think I may have used a short water pump (not sure, it was a while ago). I was very happy with the 283 (changed to a 348 later just because I wanted to).
