Thanks to everyone for all their input. I pretty much knew this was a shot in the dark. Talking with a buddy who owns the local garage we both agreed it would be a 100% red tag with the DOT but neither of us knew if you could physically get a tire on if the rim were welded solid (if it were to stay on the farm). I would rather go the new or new/used rim route anyway just for the peace of mind. I'll start making some calls on Monday.

Toyvo, With regards to the motor rebuild/price. I wasnt planning on any machining other than having the head reworked ($120). I would be doing the rebuild and it would just be a quickie. Mainly the head rework, Gaskets, set of rings, hone, and thats it. I realize the "while Im in there" part, but again this is basically just a touch above a farm truck at this point. The biggest expense would be the $120 to rework the head and the gasket set. After that it would just be my time. I have access to free fluids so that helps. I was mainly thinking of getting the smoking knocked down a bit and the post from Gtow69 sounds like a better 1st attempt.

I would love to shoot for more of a restoration at some point as my wife loves the truck but for now it would have to just be a bit here and there. As I expected, you all were very helpfull in keeping the focus where it actually should be.

Thanks again for all your input and we will keep you posted.
