That's correct.
Pure ethanol has an octane rating of 100 but behaves as if it's actually 112 octane when it's mixed with gasoline to increase the overall octane rating.
That means if you started with 87 octane fuel,the pure gasoline you're left with after separation is 84 octane. Good luck running your lawn mower on that let alone any of your vehicles.
