To set the adjustment tighter cold and come out right after warmup, the height of the block would have to grow more than the length of the pushrods does. The valve stem would also have to stay the same, and/or shrink. When both the pushrod and the valve stem grows, the clearance gets tighter, not looser, at least in my world.
