Phak 1 In 72 when I ran the machine shop in the parts store we got a lot of axle bearing changes. Would take the hot OA torch,heat the lock ring in one spot knock it off with a chisel,press off the bearing ,press on the new one,press on new lock ring. Usually not discolor the axle. Hard to press those off together axle will bow and become explosive..
