Sometimes those online casting number lists are not completely accurate, and casting numbers are not the be all and end all of engine identification. While the 3835911 block was used for Powerglide-equipped engines, it was also used for non-Powerglide engines. Remember the serial number suffix as decoded above? ZC was a regular car 235 with manual trans and heavy-duty clutch. It would've had mechanical (solid) lifters. A '54 Powerglide-equipped 235 would have had a "Y" suffix.
The '54 block in my '53 shares that casting number, but it was originally installed in a 1/2-ton truck (no Powerglide).
Did you find your head casting number to help verify that it is a '53 head?
