Don't remember needing to use spacers, but I did give away a set of 1/4" thick spacers to a friend maybe 20 years ago after I had changed the wheels to these:

'52 GMC 152 Stake Bed, Original 228, SM420, added A/C, HEI, disk front brakes, '67 Chev 3.55 rear gear. Gets used as a real truck.
