While you have the head off, it would be a good idea to have a machine shop pressure test it for leaks, and/or do a "magnaflux" inspection, looking for cracks. This would also be a good time to have the machine shop do any valve-related work, such as regrinding or replacing valves, and inspecting the valve guides for wear. Even if you end up rebuilding the lower end of the engine at a later date, the head work will be done already. Good luck!
