Scrape scrape scrape the crud... got enough to fill a hole in the path. Nice clean crossmember and chassis under all that crud. Unhooked everything connected to the 216... then removed carb, distributor, draft tube, generator, starter etc for further evaluation. Upon removing the fan there was a gaping hole behind it where the front soft plug should have been. I guess that's why coolant was spilling out! Ready to disconnect the trans, bell and linkage, I stopped... maybe I had better build a doable engine before I pull this one out.
