My auto mechanics teacher in high school recommended I not work on other people's brakes when I mentioned I was going to do it for a friend. He was concerned with the litigious nature of society and liability rather than my skills.
That has stayed with me my entire life. I will never work on other people's brakes. I only do brake jobs on my own vehicle. I will watch or assist others if they're doing their brakes but I won't do it myself.
