You did not mention the ground when you wired and replaced sending unit. I suspect you did get a ground but just did not mention. But if not, please confirm. Dash removal is a bigger job and should only be tackled once we confirm all troubleshooting otherwise.
The dash bezel is fastened 🔚 with those screws you see. Beyond that you pry and wiggle and will quickly find use for foul language. Good news is the steering wheel will be in the way. Give us a chance to see if we can work this without removing dash.
