Since installing a PCV system on my '51, 216 I've been tinkering with expected high idle from the planned vacuum leak. Today I started the truck after letting it set for a few days and as is habit I pulled the choke out, hit the accelerator a couple of times and it started instantantely.....as it should. Somewhere in letting it warm up a bit I realized the choke wasn't working. Pull the air cleaner and worked the choke at the carb and the linkage works, but the choke plate does not move....What!
Now, I'm running (what was) a nos Zenith O-10355 listed originally sold as a replacement carb for a 1937 ~ 1942 Chevrolet 216. Never messed with it much since it's worked great since I bought it from CarbKing. Come to find out it's got a spring controlled thermostat choke. At least that's my current guess. If there'a a problem with the spring setup, I'm not seeing it.
Anyone have any other thoughts on why the choke linkage won't actuate the choke plate? No bi-metal strip or bi-metal spring was obvious, just the little spring at the end of the choke plate rod.
