Pick up a copy of Hemmings Motor News at any good news stand. There are lots of LEGITIMATE auto transporters who advertise there and who will gladly provide proof of insurance, arrival times, costs, references, etc.and who have first class equipment.
I'd be leary of anyone who required a deposit if they had my car and who only claims to have insurance. Sounds like a couple of roofers I know.
