My ‘37 half ton is Very original. After sitting for way to long I started my quest to get this truck road worthy. Wheels were frozen, got the drums off, shoes are junk, removed them. Got both E brake cables off, one very hard to move the other impossible to move, soaked them both in a bucket containing 1 quart of motor oil and a gallon of gasoline. Next day, one cable moving better, one cable still won’t budge. Day 3, one cable moving good enough to reuse the other one, still not moving. Decided to “flex” the cable, bent it while spinning it in my hands. Stiff at first but it did start to flex, back in to soak. Day 4, one cable now working like new, other cable needed more flexing. Heard crunching, kept flex it around, more crunching and the pleasant sound of it breaking loose in 4 different spots. Back to soaking. Day 5, feeling good about life in general, flex the cable again and it was no longer making any noise but it just would not slide, back in the bucket for another day. Day 6, the cable, after a one sided wrestling match it is moving well, thank you very much. After all this, what’s the problem you ask? Or, maybe you didn’t, the return spring on the crunchy cable is broken. Sooooooooooo, is there anyway to replace this spring as I really want to use it, (I mean after all that!). Has anyone tried to replace that spring? If not, does anyone have that spring out in the shed on a useless E brake cable they will never use? Or, maybe someone has a cable they want to unload, I could use it but it has to be an original please. Thank you in advance.
