What truck are we talking about? If it's an AD, the steering shaft upper bearing is a bushing with a brass flanged insert to take up the play. I don't think it would hurt to put a little oil in there if it's squeaking. Here's a picture of it. As you can see, mine was a little oily when I took it apart.
